Punctum Guidelines

The punctum is the visual accent that transforms the MV letterforms from static monogram into dynamic brand mark. These principles were established through systematic testing.

The Formula

PUNCTUM = Organic Form + Centered + Bold + Ascending
Weight:8-10px for filled shapes
Position:Ascending, centered through MV
Color:Designer discretion (contrast required)

Validation Checklist

  • Is it organic (not mechanical)?
  • Is it ascending (not descending)?
  • Is it centered (not corner-to-corner)?
  • Is it bold enough (8px+ for filled shapes)?
  • Does it have sufficient contrast against background?
  • Does it enhance (not compete with) MV?

Encouraged: Dual Stroke Pattern

We encourage exploring the core-satellite relationship: a primary stroke paired with an accent element. This creates visual interest and allows for more detailed, refined treatments.

Core ElementThe primary stroke or curve that carries the main visual weight
Satellite AccentA secondary element (dot, glow, small stroke) that adds punctuation
RelationshipThe satellite should complement, not compete. Think comet + head, line + dot
